Nine hundred members and counting

“I am an author and know how important book events are–especially to debut authors.”

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Richland Hills author and librarian Pamela Skjolsvik started a Facebook group called 2020 Quarantine Book Club to support debut authors having to cancel book events and tours because of  the virus. This group was started on Saturday, March 15. Today, it has 900+ members from across the U.S., including many authors.

The first selection for the 2020 Quarantine Book Club is The Mountains Sing by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai. There will be a live video from Quế Mai on April 8 at 7 p.m. CST. Quế Mai will answer questions and participate in the group discussion.

Quế Mai is the author of eleven books of fiction, poetry, and nonfiction in Vietnamese and English. She is the translator of seven books, published in Viet Nam and the United States.

“The response to this group has been incredible,” Skjolsvik said. “I am an author and know how important book events are–especially to debut authors. If we are all having to stay home, we might as well read a fabulous book and discuss it with other members!”

There is no charge to join. Members are asked secure a copy and read the current book.
